An Amendment to the Forest Act brings about a new name, new tasks and a new organisational structure for the existing Federal Forest Research CentreAustrian Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests BFWOn 1st June, 2002 the Amendment 2002 to the Forest Act and the Amendment to the Federal Law on Federal Offices for Agriculture and Forestry and Agricultural Research Centres become effective bringing about major changes for the existing Federal Forest Research Centre.As a result, the Centre, founded in 1874 under the name of "K.k. forstliche Versuchsleitung", will have its name changed. As of 1st June, 2002, the full name will be "Austrian Federal Forest Office and Research and Training Centre for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape . The short name laid down in the Forest Act will read as follows: "Austrian Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests ". Administrative Body and Training CentreAs distinguished from the existing Centre, the Austrian Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests will be administrative body and training centre, which is due to the fact that both forest training centres (Ort and Ossiach) have been integrated to the Centre.
