Projects and Tasks |
The Working Programme 2002 of the Federal Office and
Research Centre for Forests (hitherto Federal Forest Research Centre) reflects
the new administrative and legal framework arising from the reorganisation of
the Federal Forest Research Centre and the
Amendment of 2002 of the
Austrian Forest Act becoming effective on 1st June 2002. In the future, two categories will be used for scientific planning, that is research projects and tasks. Research projects are only those activities where research is conducted during a well defined period using scientific methods. Tasks comprise all activities designed to maintain and enlarge the scientific infrastructure and capacity of the BFW as well as the scientific services. Owing to the Amendment to the Forest Act, and the fusion with the hitherto independent Forest Training Centres, the FBVA has become a new organisational unit, that is the "Federal Office and Research and Training Centre for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape (Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests )". For the first time, the hiterto FBVA has become an authority with the power to make decisions and to issue orders. Such executive tasks can be found under project nos. 2002-1 to 2002-8 . The listing of projects refers only to the Working Programme 2002 of the FBVA and, as of 1st June 2002, to the scientific tasks withing the Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests. . The activities of the Forest Training Centres Ossiach and Ort are not mentioned in this list. |
International Programmes |
With Austria joining the EU, special emphasis has
been placed on international research cooperation withing the
framework of the European Union . Being a member state of the EU, Austria
has to fulfil the requirements of the Union concerning forestry measures.
So-called COST Actions which are not restricted to EU member states have gained
special importance. In addition to project-oriented collaboration, the Federal Office and Research Centre for Forests is becoming a major player in international research collaboration strengthening participation also in national and international bodies. |
